Ear
Surgery
Prominent ears are considered as bigger than normal
in public. The real problem is that certain parts of
the cartilage in prominent ears are flat instead of
curled. As a result, a bigger angle occurs between
the earlap and the head and the ear is curled
towards. The top of the cartilage, especially the
upper earlap, is flatted than normal.
The ideal age is 6 for treatment of disorders in the
ear shape. At this age, the ear development is
substantially completed and the child is prevented
from any possible psychological trauma before
school. Prominent ear treatment can be applied to
all age groups older than 6.
Generally local anesthesia is applied in ear
surgeries. General anesthesia is also possible if
the person is compatible and is not willing for
local anesthesia. The surgical plan is implemented
after the proper examination. Bandage is often
applied on ears for 2-3 days after operation.
Following the removal of the pressure dressing, a
head band is useful for protecting the ears for
about 20 days.
