Abdominoplasty
A little excess, looseness and slackness may occur
sometimes in even persons with normal sizes and
weights. The most important reasons are genetic
characteristics, multiple pregnancies, previous
surgical interventions and changes in weight. If
your wish for a firmer and flat stomach
abdominoplasty may help you. Abdominoplasty removes
excess fat and skin. In some cases, loose and
separate muscles need recovery. This provides a
straight and flat stomach.
Women planning to have children in near future are
advised to postpone this operation. If you smoke,
you will be required to quit to get the best result
from the operation. As smoking slows down
circulation by narrowing veins, slow and
insufficient recovery will be provided. Certain
medicine such as aspirin may increase bleeding, they
should be stopped a few weeks before operation. As a
result of physical examination, it will be
determined whether you are suitable for this
operation or not. It should be kept in mind that
abdominoplasty is not a direct weight loss
operation, it is a body shaping operation.
Abdominoplasty should be conducted at hospital.
Mostly general anesthesia is preferred. Sedation and
local anesthesia can be applied for mini
abdominoplasty. Such decisions depend on the details
of operation and preferences you and your operator.
You will wake up with a pressure bandage around your
stomach after operation. This is for diminishing
swelling and bleeding after operation. There will be
two drain tubes under the skin also. These tubes
will be removed after 24-48 hours. 1-2 pillows will
be at the Geri of your knees. These pillows will
help you bend your knees and diminish the
stretchiness around stomach. You will walk inclined
towards for a couple of days after operation due to
stretchiness around the stomach, then you will be
able to walk straight gradually. In a complete
abdominoplasty, there is a long scar within the
bikini line. Muscles that form the stomach wall but
lost their flexibility will stretch again and excess
skin will be removed; against any possible
negativity, drains will be located and maintained
for 24-48 hours. These drains will prevent any
liquid accumulation under the skin. In mini
abdominoplasty, only a short scar will be on the
middle line. There will be no scar around the belly
as stretching will be limited. Liposuction may be
added to this method.
Blood accumulation under the skin (hematoma),
infection and scar problems are rare but probable
complications. Drains are certainly located at the
operation area (pipes to discharge the blood to be
accumulated inside), antibiotics, dressing for scar
area and necessary supportive medicine (scar
recovering gels and massages) are applied.
Patient stays at hospital for 2-3 days. Patients
wear special corsets and can return to their
business and daily lives as soon as possible.
Patients can go Geri to easy activities in 5-6 days
after operation. They can start their active lives
after 15-18 days. They can do sports after 6-8 weeks
